Meet your speakers:
SETTING THE SCENE AND ABB’S MISSION
Stefan Floeck, Division President of IEC Low Voltage Motors
Stefan will open the session by setting the scene for the challenges facing industries navigating today's volatile energy landscape. Drawing on ABB's deep engineering expertise, he will explore how instability in global energy markets is reshaping priorities for manufacturers and industrial operators alike – and why operational resilience and productivity are fast becoming the defining factors of competitive advantage. Stefan will outline how ABB's innovation-led approach translates directly into measurable value for customers, from reducing downtime to improving output and future-proofing operations against ongoing uncertainty.
THE NEXT FRONTIER IN MOTOR EFFICIENCY
Dave Hawley, Global Head of Sales for IEC LV Motors
Dave will introduce two landmark additions to ABB's motor portfolio: the IE6 Synchronous Reluctance (SynRM) motor range and the world's first magnet-free IE6 SynRM motor certified for hazardous areas to ATEX and IECEx requirements. He will explain how the magnet-free SynRM design – the first and only of its kind to reach IE6 hyper-efficiency – delivers lower energy losses without dependency on volatile rare earth supply chains. Dave will also highlight the operational advantages that make this technology a compelling choice for both OEMs and end users: cooler running motors with 30°C lower winding temperatures mean longer service life and reduced maintenance, while the economics speak for themselves. With electricity accounting for 97% of a motor's total cost of ownership, the efficiency gains translate directly to bottom-line impact.
For hazardous area operators in sectors such as oil & gas, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, Dave will highlight how the new IE6 Ex motor – delivering up to 60% lower energy losses versus a standard IE3 – is now a practical, certified upgrade path for applications in Zone 1 and Zone 2 environments.
POWERING UK MANUFACTURING
Richard Gee, UK Sales Manager for IEC LV Motors
Richard will bring the conversation closer to home, examining why industrial energy efficiency has become a critical issue for the UK manufacturing sector specifically. With energy costs continuing to weigh heavily on industrial operators, Richard will explore the broader economic and competitive pressures pushing the need for smarter, more efficient operations – and where the greatest opportunities lie for UK manufacturers to act now. He will outline how ABB's technologies and expertise are helping businesses across the UK cut operational costs and strengthen resilience, making the case for why upgrading ageing industrial infrastructure is no longer a long-term consideration but an immediate commercial priority.
